Organising Committee 2024
Nicolò Nicotra
Hey guys! I'm Nico, Chair of the committee for this year's Transplantation Medicine Summer School. Coming from the sunny south of Italy, I'm a fourth-year medical student, currently doing my clinical rotations at the University Medical Center Groningen. I'm thrilled to be once again part of the committee, ready to make this year's summer school an unforgettable experience!
Beyond the world of medicine, you'll find me at the gym, or traveling to different corners of the globe. I also cherish moments spent with friends, whether it's exploring new places or simply enjoying each other's company.
Transplantation holds a special place in my heart. As a medical student, witnessing the transformative impact of transplantation has been awe-inspiring. It's not just about replacing organs; it's about giving individuals a second chance at life, a concept that resonates deeply with me. I believe that understanding and advancing transplantation is crucial for the future of healthcare, and I can't wait to share that passion with you at our upcoming Summer School!
Nola Šiljić
Hi everyone!! My name is Nola and I’m a fourth-year medical student. I grew up in Split, Croatia and in my free time I enjoy going to the gym, traveling, making music and hanging out with my friends!
This is my second year at the committee and this year I am again taking up the role of a treasurer since I liked it so much! I am in charge of making the budget and making sure we get the most out of it ;)
The UMCG is the biggest transplantation center in the Netherlands and, as such, it offers many educational opportunities. I have always been fascinated by the concept of transplantation and by how many lives it has managed to save. This is why I find great joy in being a part of this committee, as well as meeting and working with many amazing people!
Rali Aleksandrova
Hey guys! I'm Rali, a fourth-year medical student at the University of Groningen. Originally from Bulgaria, I've been calling the Netherlands home ever since I was 15. But with my family now living in Switzerland, I've had the unique privilege of a pretty global upbringing! I've always found connecting with people from diverse backgrounds incredibly enriching—there's just something special about learning from different cultures, don’t you think?
In terms of my medical journey, I'm really drawn to the MD/PhD track here at the UMCG. Currently, I'm knee-deep in conducting research at the department of Surgery, Section of Hepatobiliary Surgery and Liver Transplantation. It is fair to say that transplantation has really captured my interest, and as part of the SSTX organization committee, I'm excited to share that passion with fellow students coming from all over the world!
Speaking of SSTX, I'm taking on the role of PR and Social Media Coordinator this year. Get ready for some awesome updates and engaging content across all our platforms! Let's make this year's efforts truly memorable and impactful together!
Abdullah Alghamdi
Howdy guys! I’m Abdullah, a third year medical student at the university of groningen. I was born and raised in the south of Saudi Arabia. Whenever I get some free time, I like to hang out with friends, travel around or try out new sports at the ACLO, you should check it out!
I am joining this year’s summer school as its logistic coordinator, working alongside my colleagues to bring this summer school to life and turn it into a memorable experience for you all!
I'm captivated by the magic of transplantation medicine, where selflessness meets science, saving lives through the incredible gift of organs. Witnessing the transformative impact on individuals and families, it's a realm where compassion and expertise converge, inspiring profound admiration for those who dedicate themselves to this remarkable field.
Bellefleur Plantenga
Hi everyone! I’m Bellefleur and I’m a fourth year medical student living in Groningen. I did some extracurricular courses on biomedical engineering and philosophy. In my free time, I like to play sports, like field hockey, rowing, squash and cycling. But I also love to meet with friends, cook with a good glass of wine on the side, read a book, drink really good coffee and travel!
This year, I have the role of secretary. It is my first year in the committee and I look forward to organizing this event with my committee members!
The UMCG has a special focus on transplantation medicine, which I think is really amazing. The reason why I’m very interested in this specific discipline, is that it is an innovative field of medicine that is still evolving. The combination of both technological improvements and ethical dilemmas that arise from those improvements, intrigue me very much. I look forward to meet you all, as you hopefully share my passion for transplantation medicine. We are going to have a really good time and learn a lot from each other!
