From the Board of the University: Elmer Sterken appointed as Dean of the Honours College
The Board of the University of Groningen has appointed Professor Elmer Sterken as Dean of the Honours College as from 1 September. Sterken, Professor of Monetary Economics, also serves as the Board's international collaboration adviser. In his new role as Dean of the Honours College, Sterken has been tasked with shaping the teaching for the four Schools and Enlight, in collaboration with the Teaching Academy Groningen (TAG). His appointment is initially for one year, with the possibility of extension.
With Sterken's appointment, the Board pursues its strategic goal of promoting both teaching innovation and societal impact through interdisciplinary and challenge-based teaching. In the coming years, the commitment and expertise of the Honours College will focus on the teaching activities of the Schools and Enlight, in collaboration with the TAG.
An appealing perspective
According to Sterken, the collaboration between the Honours College, Schools, Enlight, and the TAG presents an appealing perspective. 'The Schools’ four strategic themes - energy, digitization, sustainable society, and health - practically correspond to Enlight's five priority areas, the so-called “flagships”. This also applies to both teaching concepts. In addition, Enlight can strengthen teaching at the Schools in the areas of mobility and internationalization, for example through the exchange of international challenges. It is my goal to ensure that teaching at the Schools and Enlight will really take off soon, supported by the TAG's expertise in teaching innovation and lecturer professionalization.’
